Movie in the Park “HOME” is a Hit!

It was raining when we got to Wilkowski Park to set up for the movie.  We put up a canopy so we could stay dry as we bravely waited out the shower.  According to the weather reports, the precipitation was 4 1/2 hours early!  Disappointed, we watched the clouds and kept checking our cell phones for weather report updates. We were just about to cancel the "Movie in the Park" when the rain cleared. Clear skies were on the horizon, so we hurried and set up to show the new movie "HOME." By 7 PM we had over 50 people in the park. The excitement grew, as the crowd increased to over 200 people.  This was our largest crowd ever!  People brought their own canopies and shelters in case of rain.  Black plastic bags protected the speakers and amplifier.  We were showing the movie, come rain, wind or squall. Pinewood Derby Open in Rainier

The Rainier Cub Scouts will be holding it’s annual ”Pinewood Derby Open“ on Saturday March 21st.  It is a lot of fun for parents and scouts alike.  This year there will be additional races for our city wide competition.  After the scouts have their elimination races, there will be open competition for "best in the city."  Anyone and everyone will be allowed to compete, to get bragging rights for the next year.  Last years winner was Bob Gibson.  He raced the Pinewood Derby car he built when he was a 12 year old scout.  He thinks he will win again this year, so come and give him a run for the title Cars must meet BSA (Boy Scouts of America) standards and rules.  Car kits can be purchased at the BSA store in Tumwater or through Dawn Kenney at 360-446-0335 or George Johnson At 360-292-5363 for $5 each.    Cars will ...
