Mission and History
Working together to create positive opportunities and enhance community pride while promoting an alcohol-and drug-free environment for use.
Rainier Community Cares (RCC) was officially formed in July 2011 with the Washington State Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery’s Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI). The goal of CPWI is to re-direct funding to higher-need communities like Rainier. It also emphasizes using scientifically proven strategies to be effective in reducing underage drinking and drug use. By reducing underage drinking, there is also an expectation of improvement in youth delinquency, mental health and academic performance.
In 2013, RCC was also awarded a Drug Free Communities grant, a federally funded five-year grant emphasizing ways to positively affect the community with education and structural changes that influence changes in behavior.
