New Year’s Eve is a great time to reflect on the past year, think about the new year and just plain have fun. Here are some ideas for things to do while you’re waiting for that stroke of midnight: Talk about this past year. What are you thankful for? Go back over all the amazing things you did and congratulate yourself for all you accomplished. What are you most proud of that you did? What was your biggest lesson learned? Plan next year. What do you plan to do during the year What vacations would you like to take? What activities would you like to do? What new sport, craft, language would you like to learn? Movie in the Park “Despicable Me 2”

Look at the Crowd!! Everyone gathered to watch "Despicable Me 2"  in Wilkowski Park on June 27.  The crowd was dressed in summer clothing, because it was still sweltering outside.  It was unusually quiet for a movie in the park.  People were relaxing and hoping that it would cool down. Crowd at our Movie in the Park on June 27, 2015 While Rainier Community Cares members made a presentation to the crowd, Cub Scouts  helped by handing out shopping bags with Rainier Community Cares flyers and pamphlets in them.  The children worked in teams to fill the bags and take them out to the movie goers, giving out dozens of bags. The Cub Scouts gave out free "Otter Pops" while RCC members gave out cherries and T-shirts. There were families with 3 generations sitting together to watch the movie.  Friends saw each other and visited together, sharing news about the activities ...

Tie Dyeing T-Shirts at Yelm Prairie Days

Children flocked to the Rainier Community Cares booth to make their own tie-dyed T-shirts at Yelm Prairie days this year.  In the end, we ran out of white shirts and the kids tie dyed colored shirts. Dyeing a T-shirt with favorite colors Each child picked out their favorite colors to dye their shirts. Happy girl with her tie-dyed T-shirt in a Ziploc bag Once each child finished their shirt, it was placed in a one-gallon freezer bag, where it would remain for the next 24 hours, while the colors set in the shirt. Family with T-shirts and Rainier Community Cares gifts. Tabling was a hit in the park.  We gave out literature on Rainier Community Cares, colored T-shirts, bookmarks and shopping bags to adults and teens, while we invited them to our Movie in the Park in Rainier on Saturday evening ...

Putting up the Inflatable Movie Screen

Movie in the Park: Big Hero 6

Once again Rainier Community Cares brought  the Rainier community together for a Movie in the Park, by showing Disney's "Big Hero 6" on the big, inflatable screen in Wilkowski Park. Before the movie started, Rainier Cub Scout Pack #307 gave out free Otter Pops.  A long-time resident of Rainier, Jill Wilkinson, her daughter Elizabeth and several students from Rainier Middle School  ASB brought a popcorn machine made fresh popcorn. Teri Rendahl, a grandmother of three elementary school students, said "It's the best popcorn I've ever eaten. It's addictive." Children ran around and played.  They colored pictures for the contest.  The contest winners will be announced at the next Movie in the Park on Saturday, June 27. By 9 p.m., the crowd had grown to over 150 people, who had brought chairs and blankets so they'd be comfortable as they watched the show.  Before the show a few announcements were made, followed ...
